Wednesday Evening Northland Forecast: 7/30/2025

Sun, Smoke and 70's

Except for all the smoke in the air (from Canada), this would be a very nice summer week! The average high is 78 degrees, and after the hot and humid weekend we just endured, our high temps in the mid and upper 70’s feels just great! Generally, this entire week has been mostly sunny, with light winds, and highs in the 70’s. And….there’s a whole lot of stinky smoke from the millions of square acres of grasslands and prairies that are burning out of control in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I could spend an hour talking about forest and land mismanagement, but I won’t. The Air Quality Alerts for Northern MN, WI and MI extend into Thursday (for WI and MI), and into Saturday (for MN). It seems this is just something we are going to have to live with for the rest of the summer, until the whole country of Canada gets 5″ of rain, or it gets cold and starts to snow, in about October. One thing that does help us, is winds out of the south. That literally blows the smoke back north, into Canada. Any wind from the SW, South, or SE helps us a lot! Anything from the NW, North, or NE is a bad deal, and brings the smoke right into our bedroom windows.

All that being said, we are going to have high pressure over the Northland for the next several days, meaning our weather is not going to change, at all. Right thru Sunday, we will have mostly sunny skies (with smoke), light winds, and high temps in the 70’s, with low temps in the 50’s. Out next chance for rain isn’t until next Monday and Tuesday, when we will have, at best, about a 30% chance for rain each day. We need a significant change in the jetstream, or a strong low pressure system to move this way, to shake our weather up a bit. Otherwise, no significant change is going to take place.

So, be aware of the smoke in the air, and if you start feeling ill, or light-headed, take a break and go inside for awhile. The air quality SHOULD improve by late Saturday, into Sunday. Then again, it can be pretty tricky to predict which way the wind is going to blow, from day to day.
