Mike Colalillo Scholarship Open for Applications
DULUTH, Minn. — Applications for the Mike Colalillo Medal of Honor Scholarship are open.
To apply, students need to write a paper relevant to a veteran or veterans’ group of St. Louis County.
The student must be either a resident of or attending college in St. Louis County this fall, and their paper must:
• Be a minimum of four (4) and a maximum of ten (10) double-spaced pages in length
• Address a historical event in St. Louis County, Minnesota, related to a conflict, a war or the home front; OR tell the story of a county veteran
• Include at least one cited source from the Albert J. Amatuzio Research Center, located in the St. Louis County Depot Building, 506 West Michigan Street, Duluth
• Include a bibliography
The selected recipient will be awarded $1,500 and their paper will be added to the Albert J. Amatuzio Research Center.
“We highly suggest people look into their family history and find a veteran in their family and write something about them, because one it gets their story down and down for future generations, and it’ll be totally unique. It might be something we have no information about that veteran at all.” said Jay Hagen, Veterans Memorial Hall Program Manager for the St. Louis County Historical Society.
Hagen said that so far only 3 applications have been submitted but more tend to show up as the deadline approaches.
While the application period doesn’t close until Monday October 20th, students should start working on their application soon to get it done on time.
