70 Duluth Locations Participate in National Night Out
DULUTH, Minn. – Communities across the Northland celebrated National Night Out to help strengthen relationships between law enforcement officers and people of all ages.
“Community partnerships is super important, you know, and a lot of times people are calling they need help for something bad happening, whereas this gives us opportunity to come out and meet people, make those connections in a very positive way, where we get to meet people in a light and friendly manner and just kind of laugh a little bit with the locals, and get to meet the people that are living the community that we’re working in,” said Sargent Chris Shoein, University of Minnesota Police Department.
National Night Out was formed in Aug. 1984 through an existing network of law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations, and volunteers across the nation. The first annual National Night Out involved 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states.
