First Quadruplets Born in More Than 20 Years
DULUTH, Minn. – The number four has made history at Essentia St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth in the form of quadruplets. The hospital hasn’t delivered a family of four in more than 20 years.
Parents, Gabby and Bobbijean Gidley from Superior welcomed three girls and one boy on July 28. The babies were born three weeks early and are in the NICU at Essentia while doctors closely monitor their developmental milestones.
All signs indicate they are healthy, and the Gidleys are spending as much time as possible by their side until the green light is given to bring them home.
“We went in kind of expecting, you know, I’m just excited to see one baby and see the little blob on the screen,” said Gabby Gidley.
It was a shock for the couple when they were told they had four separate placentas, which meant four babies on the way.
“We desire the best outcomes, but we plan for the most intense outcomes, too,” said Micah Alton, nurse manager of NICU and PICU at Essentia Health.
