UW-Superior hosts “Paddle and Pause” Community Mindfulness Event

SUPERIOR, Wis. — Cloudy conditions and poor air quality couldn’t put a damper on UW-Superior’s latest community event.

The college hosted their “Paddle and Pause” event recently on Woodstock Bay in Superior on Aug. 5, welcoming members of the local community to a day of mindfulness on the water.

While the multi-department event was targeted at the senior community of the city, the school was not about to turn away anyone looking to unwind for a couple hours on the lake.

“It’s really wonderful to see people come here, show up, just rest and take a pause.” said Emily Groves, an outreach program with UW-Superior. “As you can see we’ve got some outstanding
folks here just committed to taking a break.”

While these types of events typically attract campus alum still in the region, UWS is proud of the connection it has built with other longtime Superior residents.

“We are devoted to supporting lifelong learning, so that could be at day one and also all the way to the end of life, and within Center of Continuing Education we support 55 plus community members, so you’ll see through Continuing Ed’s website, we have a long list of opportunities this year, so we hope that many other members will come out and join us for other activities too.” said Groves.

UWS typically offers twenty plus programs at a time for seniors, with the collection ranging from physical actives to musical programs, all of which can be found on UW-Superior’s Continuing Education website.
