Bike Park For All Skill Levels Now Open in Grand Marais
GRAND MARAIS, Minn. –In Grand Marais, cyclists are shifting gears to a unique form of biking.
Superior Cycling Association has opened a bike park for people of all ages and skill levels.
The currently seasonal park was constructed in the Cook County community skating rink, with plans to move to a new year-round home in the future.
The park has two parts, one side being wooden boardwalks that curve and vary in heights. The other side consists of a pump track, for riders to bike in a continuous loop.
The idea first came about as a way to get kids into the world of biking and give them a place to practice their skills.
“We have a skate park, but it’s not that interesting to kids who don’t ride scooters or kids who don’t ride skateboards, and just about every kid in town has a bike. I think it’s really going to be a good resource for kids to just maybe take a little diversion when they’re done with school, to go and get a little bit more energy out,” Jay Decoux, Superior Cycling Association President said.
The park is free and open to the public from sunrise to sunset. All bike types are welcome, from kids push bikes to mountain bikes.
Superior Cycling Association also plans to hold skill workshops for bikers to attend.
