Early morning standoff in International Falls
INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Min. – Some residents of International Falls were evacuated for their own safety during a stand-off on the morning of Thursday, August 14, 2025.
The International Falls Police Department say it happened on the 100 block of 13th Street West.
Police responded to the area after the call of a disturbance around 3:30am.
A man met police and told them he believed he was being shot at.
Police say the man became increasingly agitated and aggressive in the conversations.
A woman that lives in the house said the man had shown declining behavior with paranoid thoughts.
The man started making threats towards the officers and when back inside the house.
Officers then heard gunshots and believe the man was shooting at them.
Officers fell back to positions further away from the house.
They also evacuated some neighbors.
They then began talk to the man via loud speaker announcements.
He then eventually left his house and surrender to police about three hours later.
Police say they found handgun in the home that they believed had recently been fired.
