UMD Soccer Relying On Veterans to Help Turn the Corner

The Bulldogs went just 2-12-3 a year ago, finishing 11th in the NSIC.

DULUTH, Minn.- The beauty of a new season means every team is in the same boat.

A 0-0 record and a chance to improve on what happened the year prior.

The UMD soccer team is one of those squads that’s hoping for some different results heading into their 2025 campaign.

The Bulldogs went just 2-12-3 a year ago, finishing 11th in the NSIC.

Head Coach Greg Cane enters his 32nd season at the helm.

He said following the team’s first practice that he’s relying on the veterans to help shape a potential turnaround.

“It’s their locker room. It’s their practice to start. It’s their practice to finish. So, we’ve given them a lot of responsibility in making sure that the players are really the one’s that are going to make the team successful or not,” said Cane.

“I think we got too comfortable especially with losses. I think coming into this year, we have this mindset of we’re not losing, especially at home,” added midfielder Mim Marsan.

“We had a lot of close losses that if we changed a couple of things, we would’ve been able to win those games,” said forward Morgan Eckerle.

Like in previous years, UMD will travel to Michigan Tech on September 5th to kick off the year.
