UMD Volleyball Welcomes Nine New Freshman to Roster

UMD will head to Illinois on September 5th to take part in the McKendree Invitational.

DULUTH, Minn.- When the UMD volleyball team began practice on Monday, there was plenty of introductions being had.

The Bulldogs welcome in nine freshman this season to pair with the seven returners that they already have on their roster.

After finishing 10th in a tough NSIC conference last season, the Bulldogs know they have to get on the same page in these first couple of weeks of practice before the season gets officially underway.

“For nine of them they are really trying to figure out what we want it to look like, to improve them individually so that we can collectively put them together and be successful. So it’s going to take time, it’s going to take a lot of patience on the coaching staff’s part but also the players’ part, it can be a frustrating process. We know what it’s going to take for them to succeed at our level in the Northern Sun and so they all have learning a growing to do and that’s going to take some time,” said head coach Jim Boos.

“I think we are coming into the season with a really open mind. We have a lot of really good talent on this team, really scrappy talent, I think one of our downfalls from last year was that we weren’t scrappy. Even just day one here this morning was very exciting to watch,” added middle blocker Kylie Broten.
