Two Harbors Football Preaches Grit to Their Young Squad
Two Harbors opens up their season at home on Friday, August 29th, against North Branch.
TWO HARBORS, Minn.- The Two Harbors football team is coming off one of their best seasons in recent years.
The Agates made the section 7AAA title game a year ago.
Where they fell to Pequot Lakes 36-15.
Now the Agates football team will look a little different in the 2025 season.
Two Harbors enters the year with a young squad after graduating 14 seniors.
When working with a young team, head coach Tom Nelson understands that there will be learning moments throughout the entire season.
Especially opening up the year against 4A schools.
“We are going to be young, and we are going to be inexperienced in places, most definitely. We lost a lot of good talent for last year, but these guys have just done a fantastic job thus far, working hard, great attitudes, great effort. We are going to have some growing pains, but we’re really excited to get started,” said Tom Nelson. ” We are going to be challenged right out of the gates, but it will make us better. Win or lose, we will get better from playing those 4A schools, and we are excited to do that.”
When working through the ups and downs of a football season.
There is one thing that comes to mind that will help Two Harbors this year.
“I think we’ve just been talking a lot about being gritty. We just have to be gritty, and what I mean by that is a bunch of gritty over achievers,” said Nelson.
“We have a lot of guys who have a lot of grit, and it’s just going to take a lot of heart, and I would say that one way that I can help my teammates out is just by showing them how hard I’m going to play. So, that’s hopefully going to inspire those guys to play just as hard as us seniors,” said Agates running back Tommy Dechantal.
