Hermantown Football Aiming to Prove 2024 Season Was Not Just a One-Time Occurrence
Hermantown kicks off the regular season a week from Friday, hosting Duluth Denfeld at 7 PM.
HERMANTOWN, Minn.- The 2024 season for the Hermantown football team was one to remember.
A 9-2 overall record, which included a state quarterfinal appearance.
But with the start of their 2025 campaign on the horizon, the team is all about carving their own path.
Hermantown does have a number of returners this year after only graduating eight seniors. Those back include running back Martin Sleen and wideout Landon Burg.
Head Coach Mike Zagelmeyer said yes there’s a lot of buzz about his team but nothing will be given to them.
“So a lot of it went into understanding the fact that last year is last year. It’s feel really good this year to get a lot of compliments in the off-season. Complimenting us on our season last year. Everybody is looking forward to this year and saying hey good luck. We tell our guys don’t be complacent because once again they’re going to have to prove it. If they’re going to have success this year, the targets on their back and they’re going to have to prove everything that they earn,” said Zagelmeyer.
As Coach Zagelmeyer mentioned the target is on their backs as the defending section champs, something the players say adds a big time feel to every game they play.
“Every team are not going to be like last year, they’re all different. We’re preparing for them like every other team, not taking any days off, any weeks off. I think it’s just we’re going to play our game and we’re going to play it well,” said lineman Adan Sandoval-Luna.
“I think it’s great motivation for all of us. I think it pushes us to work harder. It’s just fun to know that everybody is going to bring it. Because we’re going to be bringing it too and being everyone’s Super Bowl is just a great feeling,” added wideout and defensive back Landon Burg.
