Minnesota ramps to and from Bong Bridge to have closures

DULUTH, Min. –  The rehabilitation project on the Bong Bridge will lead to some closures on the Minnesota side of the structure.

The closures will start Friday, August 22, 2025.

  • Friday and Saturday, Aug. 22-23: The ramp from southbound I-35 to eastbound US 2 will be closed early Friday morning and reopen to traffic by 11:59 p.m. Saturday.
  • Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 25-26: The ramp from westbound US 2 to northbound I-35 will be closed early Monday morning and reopen to traffic by 11:59 p.m. Tuesday.
  • Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 27-28: The ramp from northbound I-35 to eastbound US 2 will be closed early Wednesday morning and reopen to traffic by 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

All closed ramps will be detoured; motorists should follow detour signs.

All lanes of US 2 on the bridge, along with the ramps, are slated to reopen by noon Friday, Aug. 29.

Work on the bridge rehabilitation is scheduled for completion in early December.
