Great Northern Classic Rodeo Hits Superior
SUPERIOR, Wis. — Cowboy hats are back in style, as the 34th ‘Great Northern Classic Rodeo’ rides again, in Superior the weekend of Aug. 29.
The rodeo, which spent its first two seasons in Duluth, before moving to the Head of the Lakes Fairgrounds in Superior in the early 1990’s, has been a staple for decades, and it’s all possible thanks to its countless volunteers.
“We’re extremely grateful for our volunteers, since we are a non profit, so we love all the help we can get.” said 2025 Rodeo Queen Jaycie McCracken. ‘The Rodeo crew is amazing as well. We all work hand in hand. We work together. Very grateful for every single one of the people that I get to deal with every day.”
Those that typically miss the opening night festivities don’t need to be worried though.
“We’re going to be doing the same things basically every day, bronc riding, bull riding, steer wrestling.” said McCracken. “We offer kids events as well, like watermelon crawl and sheep, sheep riding called “Mutton Busting”, so that’s really fun. There’s prizes involved in that, so we’ll be offering all these events every single day.”
The 34th edition of the Great Northern Classic Rodeo is taking place Aug. 29 through Aug. 31. in Superior, with Saturday’s events kicking off at 7:00 P.M, and Sunday’s beginning at 2:00 P.M.
