Governor Tim Walz Addresses Labor Day at Bayfront Picnic

DULUTH, Minn.– Duluthians and politicians gathered Monday at Bayfront Festival Park to represent all things labor and union.

Hotdogs, sides and fixings were dished out by volunteers and several union reps.

Numerous musical groups accompanied the event, while everyone shared a meal.

The crowd got to hear from several speakers, including Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Gov. Tim Walz. Both of them emphasized the importance of Labor Day.

“Just a couple weeks ago we celebrated the 90th anniversary of the Social Security Act. It was labor who helped make sure that thing got through. We just celebrated Medicaid. It was labor who got those things through. It’s safe-working conditions, the ACA, everything we’ve seen was about labor being there,” Walz explained.

Gov. Walz said Minnesota is ranked in the top five best states for quality of life.  He said organized labor is necessary for maintaining better well-being in the workforce and community.
