New Sports Court Opens at Harbor Highlands Community Center

DULUTH, Minn. — A ribbon cutting was held on Wednesday to celebrate the new sports court at the Harbor Highlands Community Center.

The basketball court received a major upgrade, and is designed to bring neighbors together.

The Duluth Area Family YMCA and the Housing and Redevelopment Authority of Duluth (HRA) came together to make the court a reality.

The court allows people to get outside and stay active, whether that be through basketball, pickleball or other fun games.

“We love working with the Harbor Highlands community. So it just brings me immense pleasure and gratitude to be standing in this space and see it finally come to life, and see kids playing on it already. So it means everything. I think in the Northland, we have a love of being active and being outdoors,” Sara Cole, CEO of Duluth YMCA said.

Harbor Highlands offers a variety of housing units. The community center on the property also provides youth programs, which use the various amenities in the neighborhood, including the sports court.
