Charges: Woman Randomly Stabbed In Duluth’s ‘Memorial Park’ Near School
DULUTH, Minn.– A Duluth woman is accused of randomly stabbing another woman in a city-owned park next to Laura MacArthur Elementary School, according to court documents.
Tasha Lucille Carlson, 37, of Duluth, is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.
Court documents said the stabbing happened around 10 p.m. on Sept. 1 in Memorial Park, which is located at the corner of Central and Grand avenues in West Duluth.
Officials said Carlson had been yelling and screaming all day in the park before approaching the 36-year-old female victim, who was just outside the fencing. That is when Carlson is accused of threatening to stab the victim.
The criminal complaint went on to say Carlson then jumped off her bike and tried to stab the victim in the stomach. A struggle ensued before the victim was stabbed in the thigh, according to officials.
The victim ran across the street to the Circle K gas station, called the police and then got medical attention.
Police located Carlson at the park and made the arrest.
When officers asked if Carlson was injured, she answered, “only mentally,” according to the complaint.
A knife was collected on scene, and the victim’s injuries were non-life threatening.
In a court filing, the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office requested bail to be set at $40,000.
“The state has significant concerns for public safety, as this was an unprovoked and random attack,” the attorney’s office told the judge.
FOX 21 only became aware of this story through court documents. The Duluth Police Department never issued a press release about the crime.
When FOX 21 asked why this was the case, the department’s public information officer said:
“We never did a press release as the suspect was arrested shortly after the dispatched call, and the individual received non-life-threatening injuries.” – Duluth Police Department
Carlson faces a maximum sentence of 7 years in prison if convicted of the crime.
