‘Foxes and Fireflies’ Bookstore Celebrates One Year of Business

SUPERIOR, Wis.– The pages have been turning at superior’s Foxes and Fireflies bookstore for one year now.

The store got its origins when Superior Telegram reporter, Maria Lockwood, decided enough was enough.

With the help of some grants, Superior finally opened its first bookstore in 17 years.

‘Foxes and Fireflies’ has a strong mission of local author support, and community engagement.

Over the past year, Lockwood has been learning the ropes of running the business, and the book lovers of Superior have taken notice.

“I accidentally was doing story on a new business startup group that was that was forming, and I went through the application process to understand it more, and they chose my application. Even though I had no business experience, I didn’t know what I was doing. They said, yes, we need a bookstore in Superior you’re in,” said Maria Lockwood, owner ‘Foxes and Fireflies’.

The store celebrated its first-year anniversary party last weekend.

Lockwood says, she is incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support.

“Without them, we wouldn’t be here. We’re here for them, and we’re here because of them. We had our birthday, our one-year anniversary, this last week, and I was just blown away. So many people stopped by. We had someone brought birthday flowers, someone brought a birthday card, and so many people came to just celebrate with us. So, thank you to the community for your support,” beamed Lockwood.

‘Foxes and Fireflies’ is open year-round.

They’ve been hosting craft nights and author signings, including our very own Maria Vollum’s book signing happening on Saturday from 1-3 PM.

This is all to ensure the pages keep on turning.
