Hibbing standoff ends with man in custody
HIBBING, Minn. — A standoff with a man in Hibbing ended with his arrest
According to officials Wednesday at around 3:15 p.m., police attempted to arrest a man with outstanding warrants in the 2400
block of 5th Avenue W in Hibbing.
When officers made contact with the man, he fled and barricaded himself inside his garage.
Officials say he then started to pour gas around and threatened to light the garage and himself on fire if they entered.
After several hours of negotiation with the man police say it was apparent that he was not willing to leave.
Officials say they were then able to safely enter the garage using less-lethal ammo and take the uncooperative man into custody.
The man was taken to Fairview Range for a medical evaluation and is now in custody.
Charges are pending. Check back for updates.
