UMD Students Pack Meal Bags for People in Need
DULUTH, Minn. — It was a day of community on the UMD Campus starting with packing meals bags for young individuals facing food insecurity.
UMD paired up with Project Joy to fill 400 bags.
Students could fill a bag as they pass by.
With less than a minutes to finish a bag, it made a quick low commitment way for students to make a difference.
“They really do have a servant’s heart. They’re like ‘Oh, I love to volunteer’. A lot of them have just wanted to get more information about what we have in the future. So, we’ve got some potential more volunteers for us going forward.” Laura Andrews, Project Joy Coordinator.
Students even asked to fill more than one bag.
While the Fox21 team was there, one kind student even filled several.
The bags will be distributed to local non-profit partners serving young people in the twin ports.
This was done as part of volunteer week, and a volunteer fair was going on as well – read more here.
