11-Year-Old Girl Fatally Hit by Vehicle While Riding Her Bike

WRENSHALL, Minn. – Friday evening, 11-year-old Avery Anderson died after being hit by a vehicle in Wrenshall.

The child was reported to be riding in the roadway near the intersection of Broadway St. and Crestwood Drive when she was hit by a pickup truck. An off-duty Cloquet Police Department Patrol Officer dispatched the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office and then began aiding Anderson.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies, Wrenshall Fire Department, Carlton Fire & Ambulance, Cloquet Area Fire Department, Pine County Sheriff’s Office, and the Minnesota State Patrol continued to aid in lifesaving measures. Due to the severity of her injuries, Anderson was taken to the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis by Life Link III, where she later passed despite lifesaving efforts.

Deputies determined that there were no signs of impairment from the 49-year-old male from Summerville, South Carolina, who was driving the pickup. As for now, the incident remains under investigation.
