100 Employers Connect with Students at UMD STEM Fair

DULUTH, Minn.– University of Minnesota Duluth students got a firsthand look at potential career opportunities in STEM.

Whether there’s students getting a glimpse into their future, or upperclassman doing some job hunting, the STEM career fair is meant to give students an idea of potential out of college.

Other than careers, many booths also honed in on recruiting for internships.

There were an impressive 100 employers giving listeners the scoop on what their job is all about.

“I’ve spoken to a lot of employers here where it’s not something that I think they would be hiring my major or what I’m interested in, but they often have a lot more opportunities than you think they have, and they’re very open to just chatting with you, meeting with you, and you never know when you talk to someone,” said Norah Bracke, Career Assistant, Career Center UMD.

One senior at UMD told FOX 21, this takes the stress away from traditional job hunting.

“They can definitely just kick you out into the real world and have you figure it out by yourself. But having the opportunity to come out here and being able to just build the initial relationship with those companies and those people that work there is definitely a foot in the door to starting your career as a young professional,” said Evan Slinger, senior at UMD.

This is just part of a career fair series the University is putting on.

On September 18th, from 10 am to 2 pm there will be a business career fair in the Kirby Ballroom and Rafters.
