Coast Guard Conducts Mock Hazard Spill Drill

SUPERIOR, Wis.– Today is day two of the mock Coast Guard hazard response drill.

This is something that the team conducts every four years.

The Coast Guard paired up with 15 different organizations, to emphasize readiness, and familiarity.

On the harbor in Duluth, the team is solving what could be a real oil spill hazard, with the same tools.

One of the Public Information Officers for the Coast Guard says this type of drill is reassuring, and it gives them the opportunity to reflect before a real emergency.

“What we all doing is, we’re sitting down, we’re talking about what went right, what went wrong, what are some things we can work on, what are some things that we can use for the future? What are some like, major pieces of pieces that we all gauge from this, and all this teaches us is what to do when it happens,” said Maximillian Morise, Public Information Officer, U.S. Coast Guard.

For this drill, participants involved came from all over the Midwest, including Detroit and Sault St. Marie.

Morise said, the exercise highlights the Coast Guard’s motto of ‘Semper Paratus’, always ready.
