UMD Football to Take On Sioux Falls in Battle of 3-0 Teams

UMD is just 2-7 against Sioux Falls since the 2013 season.

DULUTH, Minn.- UMD head football coach Curt Wiese has been preaching the one play at a time mindset to his players all off-season long.

This past Saturday, UMD’s contest against Minnesota State-Mankato just so happened to come down to just one final play.

And unlike a few times last year, the Bulldogs came out on the right end this time around as Jadon Apgar booted the game-winning field goal from 25 yards out.

Head Coach Curt Wiese says it’s been awhile since the team achieved a victory like that and praised his team’s resilience.

“You look back at last season and we had four losses like that, This year, after the game we were talking as a staff, I think since 2010 for a national championship, that’s the last time we walked off a kick for UMD football. Super proud of our guys. They stayed the course throughout. We stayed with the gameplan, our guys didn’t falter. We have plenty of room for improvement here. As you go back and watch the film, there was a lot of mistakes made on Saturday afternoon that could’ve cost us as well. But, it’s great to be 3-0 and in the spot that we are in right now,” said Wiese.

UMD now turns the page to another ranked squad in Sioux Falls, a team that they’ve gone just 2-7 against since 2013.

“Two undefeated teams. Sioux Falls is obviously a really good team. I think what’s going to separate us this week is just focusing on the details and applying what we work on in practice, applying to game on Saturday,” added running back Derrick Johnson.

UMD is 0 and 4 at Bob Young Field since 2013.

They’ll try to snap that drought at 1 PM on Saturday afternoon.
