Friday Evening Northland Forecast: 9/19/2025
Last Weekend of Summer
Monday, September 22nd at 1:19pm. That is the moment Autumn (Astronomical) will arrive in Duluth and Superior, and the whole Northland. Meteorological Autumn started on September 1st. But Astronomical Autumn is the version I have always gone with. After all the heat the land and water around has absorbed all summer, there is about a 3-week lag time, for the area to release all that heat and moisture back into the atmosphere (and, into space), to allow us to start to cool down for Fall. That same 3-week lag time is also present as we transition thru the other seasons, too. So, that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
🙂
It will feel very fall-like most of this weekend. A low pressure system to our west will take the entire weekend to move east of the area. That means most of the weekend will be cool, cloudy, a bit windy, and kind of wet. There is a decent chance for rain tonight, Saturday, Saturday night and Sunday. We aren’t expecting heavy rain, or thunderstorms. Maybe we will see an inch of rain over the next 2 days and nights. And, that’s fine, as we are below average for the month, and for the year. The highs will be in the mid-60’s all weekend, with mainly east winds, 10-15mph. Once the low gets east of us, we will get some more sunshine, and some warmer temps, too. Our highs will quickly jump back to the upper 60’s by early next week, and we might hit 70 by next Friday.
So, enjoy this last weekend of (Astronomical) summer, and remember that we can certainly still get some nice weather all the way into October. But, those days are definitely beginning to get more rare. Have a great weekend!
