Duluth man arrested for threatening to shoot elementary school released on bail

DULUTH, Minn. — A Duluth man who was arrested for threatening an elementary School has been released on a $100,000 bail.

Richard Neault was arrested on September 11 for threatening to shoot the windows of Laura MacArthur Elementary School.

72-year-old Neault is being charged with felony threats of violence and is facing a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison or a $10,000 fine.

Duluth Public Schools released a statement regarding Neault’s release, saying that the district is working closely with the Duluth Police Department to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The police department has issued an Extreme Risk Protection Order(ERPO) against Neault, otherwise known as a red flag law.

The ERPO prevents him from owning guns, ammunition, or any other dangerous weapons.

A police officer was stationed at the elementary school on Monday out of caution.
