Fire Destroys Duluth Family’s Home, Kills 2 Pets

One cat survived but suffered severe burns.

DULUTH, Minn. — A Duluth family of four is in need of financial help after a late-night fire tore through their childhood home and took the life of their cat and dog and left one cat alive with severe burns.

The Rosendahl family was lucky to get out of the burning house without being injured, but starting over from scratch, while navigating insurance claims, is painful in itself.

Relatives have set up a GoFundMe for the family so they can secure temporary housing, make the deposit for a new place and build up the basic essentials like clothing, toiletries and food.

Donations will also help with veterinary care for the surviving cat known as Pinky who was found alive in the basement with severe burns on her paws, legs and chest.

The fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 500 block of East Eighth Street.

Damage is estimated around $116,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
