Month of October Declared Domestic Violence Awareness Month
SUPERIOR, Wis.– October represents domestic violence awareness month, and this was addressed today in a proclamation in Superior.
This year’s theme is ‘Survivors Always’, emphasizing community support surrounding domestic violence.
The event began with Troy House of Superior, giving a heartfelt opening song.
Superior mayor Jim Paine, for his 9th year, brought awareness, acknowledgement, and support for this cause.
Education is a big goal this year, knowing how to tackle first steps CASDA staff says, is crucial.
“It is really important to be able to educate people on this, you know, to be able to even be able to reach out more to even the rural communities and stuff like that, to make them aware of what is going on, and maybe have, like, support and encouragement for those people, instead of asking, you know, like, why do They stay in these relationships? Like, how can I help?” said Brenna Follis, Domestic Abuse Program Manager, CASDA.
There will be numerous events throughout the month to show support.
On October 10th, CASDA will be partnering with PAVSA for an event at Earth Rider called ‘positive project’, bringing awareness to animal abuse.
And then on October 26th, there will be a chili cook off. An opportunity for networking, and positivity.
