Superior Man Provides Update To Wisconsin Public Defenders Social Security Breach

SUPERIOR, Wis. — Fox 21 is able to provide an update the previously reported story about a large data breach of social security numbers by the Wisconsin State Public Defender’s Office.

As Fox21 previously reported, a client of that office, Joe Eischens of Superior, was accidentally sent thousands of social security numbers during a personal data request he made with the office.

Since our investigation, Eischens tells Fox21 authorities have allowed him to delete all files associated with the breach, which he has done.

Eischens reiterated that, after his initial discovery of the mistake and the social security numbers, he refused to view the files associated with the breach in order to protect the victims’ privacy.

However, a USB sent to Eischens by the Public Defenders Office remains missing, after Fox 21 confirmed the address the USB was sent to does not exist.

This is a follow-up to a previously reported story.
