#10 UMD Football Continues “One Play Mindset” Entering Their Contest with Northern State
The UMD football team will hit the road this weekend to take on Northern State.
DULUTH, Minn.- Another week for the UMD football team results in another victory for the Bulldogs as they defeated Southwest Minnesota State 63-28 on Saturday.
Now the 6-0 Bulldogs will hit the road this week to take on Northern State.
This year’s match-up marks the 41st meeting between the two squads.
Last year, the Wolves got the best of the Bulldogs, walking away with a 24 to 21 win after hitting a game-winning field goal.
Coming into the game against Northern State, the Bulldogs are ranked 10th in the country.
UMD understands that gaining national attention in the polls will result in teams giving them their very best every snap.
“Our guys understand, first of all we are going into a tough environment. Northern State has a good crowd. They’re a good football program, they’re coming off a tough loss at Bemidji, but I also think they’re one of the better teams in the conference,” said head coach Curt Wiese. “You go into Northern State, we need to play like a top ten football team. People are going to have a bullseye on our back to be able to come play us. We understand that, so we are going to need to continue to play at a high level.”
When playing on the road, the Bulldogs know they will need to start the game out right, by focusing on one play at a time.
Especially against a team that gave them trouble a season ago.
“I think whenever you are on the road, you want to be able to get off on the right foot and not necessarily have your back against the wall. Especially against a team that was able to do that last fall to us. But I also think that as you head into this football game, we understand it’s going to be a 60-minute game. So, we can’t overreact if something goes south for us earlier in the football game like it did last weekend,” said Wiese.
” Just always worrying about one play, like do what you can that play, do your job, do everything right. Like the last game, that one big play is one play. Get back to it and get on the field and start going again,” said UMD defensive lineman Gus Taylor.
Kickoff between the Bulldogs and the Wolves is on Saturday at 6 p.m.
