Normanna Volunteer Fire Dept. Fundraising Event Returns Oct. 11
DULUTH, Minn. – The Normanna Volunteer Fire Department is getting ready for its third-annual Normanna Fire Squatch 5K fundraising event this Saturday, Oct. 11.
The fun starts at 9 a.m. with a pancake breakfast, followed by the 5K race and a baby Squatch 1K for the kids.
Vendors will be on hand, a silent auction and activities for the kids. Click here for ticket information.
Fire Chief Corey Hulst says the fundraising event is crucial to help keep the department operational and also keep the volunteers and the community safe.
“You know, you have your township, you got 36-square miles you’re trying to cover, and you’ve got a small portion of taxpayers that are in that area, so you can only tax base so much funding. So we try to raise funds through the auxiliary and help support equipment that’s expensive, do some of our grant writing for us, and try to help that way. So that’s why we got into it, and it sort of morphed into more of a community day than we thought it would right away. So it’s kind of fun to have vendors come out. We’ve got a bouncy castle for the kids. The kids come and hang out with the trucks all that kind of stuff. So it becomes a community day,” Hulst said.
Last year around 200 people showed up to the pancake breakfast and 60 runners laced up for the Squatch 5K.
The event will be held at the Normanna Town Hall — 6472 French River Road in Duluth.
FOX 21’s Dan Hanger will be there as the emcee.
