Northern Star: Ethan Harms

In his senior year he has rushed for 424 yards and 6 touchdowns as QB and racked up 367 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns as receiver.

MAPLE, Wis.- When teams play the 7-0 Northwestern Tigers, they make sure they know where number three is on the field.

Ethan Harms has been making plays for the Tigers in his Senior year in multiple different positions.

On offense, Harms can line up under center and play quarterback or go out wide and play receiver for the Tigers.

“He’s smart, He’s started since his sophomore year. So, he knows what he is facing, he knows when to say give me the ball this is going to work.” said head coach Jovin Kroll. ” Because he’s a kid who can score anytime he touches the ball.”

In his senior year he has rushed for 424 yards and 6 touchdowns as QB and racked up 367 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns as receiver.

Some may say playing both spots on offense would be a challenge.

But for Harms, it has given him many different perspectives of the field.

” Being quarterback, that definitely helped a lot. Because you have to study defenses,” said Harms. ” You know where the holes are, where the open spots are going to be. So, it kind of just correlated to like when I am at receiver. I know the soft spots in a zone, and I know how to get open against man-on-man coverage.”

Over on the defensive side of the ball.

A similar story for Harms, as he can lineup almost anywhere.

“Some monster linebacker for us, he’s been a defensive end, he’s been a deep safety, he moves all over the field,” said Kroll. “You know you can trust Ethan to be in spot A, B, or C.”

So, for Harms, knowing several different spots on either offense or defense, has allowed him to see the bigger picture of the game.

“Just like everything in general, because on defense you’re looking at what the offense is going to do and on offense you’re looking at what the defense is going to do. So, I mean, overall, it brings a big understanding to what each group is trying to do,” said Harms.

The Tigers next game is on Friday, October 10th, against Ashland.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
