Crosby Fire cause determined; Containment grows
TOFTE, Min. – The Crosby Fire burning near Tofte has reached 45% containment on Saturday October 11, 2025
It has burned 260 acres.
Investigators say the cause of the Crosby Fire has been determined to be a result of a lightning strike.
Firefighters are making progress establishing a handline along the west and east sides of the fire’s
perimeter.
Water-scooping aircraft and a helicopter continued to support firefighters on the ground by dropping water to cool and slow down the active flames.
A portion of the Superior Hiking Trail within the George H. Crosby Manitou State Park is closed due to the Crosby Fire.
An expected weather change bringing gusty northwest winds that will create a potential to push the fire toward the trail.
The trail is closed between Caribou Falls State Wayside Rest along Minnesota State Highway 61 to the Lake County Road 7 (Cramer Road) access points.
The state park remains open.
