Threat To Proctor Middle And High Schools; Increased Patrols This Week

Proctor Schools

PROCTOR, Minn. — The Proctor  School District and the Proctor Police Department are investigating a threat to the middle and high schools, which officials do not believe is credible.

Supt. Tim Rohweder sent a lengthy email to families and staff Sunday about the threat, which referenced Oct. 13.

Rohweder acknowledged how these situations can be “unsettling,” but he said it is important to maintain a structured, calm and supportive learning environment as police investigate.  So that means school will continue as normal Monday — but patrols will be increased and councilors will be on hand for any student concerns.

Below is the full statement from Rohweder.

“Dear Proctor Middle and High School Students, Families, and Staff,

I want to take a moment to address a situation that has come to our attention and to provide you with accurate and timely information. Earlier this weekend, the district was made aware of a threat of violence directed toward Proctor Middle and High School, referencing Monday, October 13th specifically. Please know that the safety and well-being of our students and staff are always our highest priority, and we are responding with the utmost seriousness and care.

Upon learning of the threat, we immediately contacted the Proctor Police Department, and since that time, our administration and law enforcement partners have been working collaboratively to thoroughly investigate the situation. The police have been assessing the source and credibility of the threat, interviewing individuals, and following all necessary investigative procedures. As of now, there is no evidence indicating a credible or ongoing threat to student or staff safety.

That said, we recognize that even the mention of a threat can cause fear and anxiety within our school community. For that reason, we are taking proactive and precautionary measures to ensure everyone feels safe and supported. Throughout the three days of school this week, there will be increased law enforcement presence at the HS/MS site, as well as heightened building security procedures throughout the day. This includes additional monitoring of entrances and hallways, controlled access points, and close coordination with our School Resource Officer and administrative teams.

Classes will proceed as scheduled, and our focus will remain on maintaining a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment. We believe that maintaining the normal school routine—while increasing visible safety measures—is the best way to provide reassurance and stability for our students.

We understand that situations like this can be unsettling for students, staff, and families alike. Our school counselors, social workers, and administrative staff will be available throughout the day to provide emotional support or answer questions. We encourage parents and guardians to speak with their children about any concerns they may have and to remind them that sharing information about potential safety issues with a trusted adult is always the right thing to do.

As always, we appreciate the ongoing partnership of our families, students, and staff in maintaining a safe and respectful school community. We also want to thank the Proctor Police Department and other local agencies for their rapid response, professionalism, and continued collaboration.

If any additional information becomes available, we will communicate updates through our usual district channels.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and trust as we work together to ensure that Proctor Public Schools remain a safe and supportive place for all students to learn and grow.

Sincerely,

Tim Rohweder

Superintendent of Schools”
