Man taunts Troopers after 100-mile-per-hour chase, later leaving note calling self ‘Undefeated driver #1’
NEAR CHISHOLM, Min. – Charging documents say a man drove from Minnesota Highway Patrol Trooper at more than 100-miles per hour leading them on a chase, and later left a note taunting them.
The report alleges a Trooper clocked Matthew Irgang, 43, Eveleth driving 101-miles per hour the evening of December 8, 2024.
He was allegedly driving on Highway 169 near Chisholm at the time.
The trooper reports they attempted to catch up to Irgang with the lights and siren activated on the squad. Irgang then got into town, the Trooper lost sight of Irgang and stopped the purist.
The Trooper was able to use surveillance video from businesses and the City of Chisholm to confirm the license plate of the Ford Explorer that Irgang was allegedly driving.
In April of 2025, another Trooper made phone contact with Irgang.
At that time Irgang allegedly swore at the Trooper and hung-up the phone.
According to charging documents eight days later Irgang, “Stopped at the State Patrol Office and dropped off a letter. In the letter [Irgang] admitted he ‘successfully eluded’ the trooper and stated, ‘The Ford Explorer shall do you well in your pursuits!’ [Irgang] singed the letter, ‘Best wishes, Undefeated driver #1, Matt Irgnang.'”
The accusations and charges are coming to light because Irgang was recently arrested on other charges, and then these charges were then officially filed in court.
He’s facing charges in this case of Felony
Irgang made his First Appearance in court on the charges on October 14, 2025.
He is scheduled for a competency later in October.
