University of Wisconsin- Superior Hosts Undergraduate Research Symposium

SUPERIOR, Wis. — On Oct. 14, student researchers gathered at the University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Yellow Jacket Union as the university hosted its undergraduate research symposium. The event provided students with an opportunity to showcase their academic work and share innovative projects with the campus community and the public.

More than 30 students from a wide range of disciplines presented research projects they’ve developed through opportunities, including the McNair Scholars Program and the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program. Topics ranged from “Investigating Predictors of Psychological Distress Among Restaurant Employees” to “Exploring Quantum Cryptography.”

“So obviously this is an incredible learning opportunity for students, but it really requires that strong mentorship by faculty, and so I’m so appreciative of each of those teachers who are taking of their time, giving it to these students to ensure they’re having this really quality experience,” said, Ilsa Hoeschen, UWS Senior Partnerships Officer and Director of Link Center. “Not only have they worked so hard and so this is this culminating moment for them, but it’s also a really key part of their career or educational journey.”

Events like this symposium highlight the university’s commitment to supporting undergraduate research and encourage students to pursue advanced studies and career opportunities in their chosen field. The event also provides opportunities to present at state and national conferences, helping them gain valuable experience in academic and professional research settings.
