#4 UMD Women’s Hockey Set for Top 5 Tilt Against #3 Minnesota

The Bulldogs last win against the Golden Gophers came on March 12th of 2022.

DULUTH, Minn.- For the 2nd time this year, the 4th ranked UMD women’s hockey will face off against another top five team.

It’s the Minnesota Golden Gophers versus the Bulldogs for the 122nd time.

In recent years, Minnesota has a hold of the head-to-head matchup by taking nine of the last 10 meetings.

The Bulldogs last win against the Golden Gophers came on March 12th of 2022.

Head Coach Laura Schuler shared what it’s going to take for her team to end that streak.

“Making sure we’re playing the right way, moving our feet so that we can always create advantages through our positioning. That way we can stay out of the box and continue to play five on five hockey. If anything, hopefully get the advantage on the power play. Because sometimes that can be the difference in terms of being able to, you might be even on five on five. Sometimes if you can put away a goal on the power play and keep it out on the other side of things, you end up with the win,” said Schuler.

This weekend’s series will also be a reunion for current Bulldogs Krista Parkkonen and Kate Kosobud, who played previously for the Gophers.

“I’m just excited to play them with our style of hockey. Because I believe in our team so much and I’m just so excited to see our talent go out there and see what it brings, what outcomes comes. So, I’m excited for that,” added Kosobud.

UMD will vye for their 33rd win all-time against Minnesota on Friday at 6:02 PM.
