DULUTH, Minn. — The Lake Superior Zoo celebrated International Snow Leopard Day, welcoming locals in to help share the love with the zoo’s resident big cat.

The zoo’s guests were able to ring in the day by designing their own “enrichment item”, which would later be given to Kiran, the snow leopard.

Guests were able to decorate a colorful box and add a scent to it for the leopard, with the different boxes being handed over to Kiran later in the day.

“I definitely think that guests being able to interact with an enrichment and decorate something for the cats builds empathy with these beautiful animals. So by allowing guests to create the enrichment that otherwise keepers would be creating every day, they are getting to participate in the animal’s care, just like we are,” said the Primary Carnivore Keeper, Micayla Coble.

The zoo also took the time to celebrate all its big cats, showing visitors their training routines.
