Students Launch Weather Balloon Experiment

Wx BalloonDULUTH, Minn. — Students from Piedmont released a weather balloon as part of a STEM project.

The balloon is expected to reach an altitude of 100,000 feet and land 3 hours after launch in northwest Wisconsin.

There are multiple cameras watching over experiments connected to the balloon.

Students also attached a Labubu with an alien head to the project.

“Hands on learning is everything, because we can read a book all day, but not all students learn from just reading a book. When they’re actually able to make experiments and do the experiment, they can learn way more, and they can visually see it and then once the balloon does go up and come down, eventually they’ll be able to track it through the GPS and go find it and see where it went.” said Marisa Stevens, Paraprofessional.

This project is done with the support of St. Louis County and Essentia Health.

The weather balloon is retrieved after it lands.
