Duluth Planning Commission Approves Sale of Lester Park Property

DULUTH, Minn. — The Duluth Planning Commission approved the resolution supporting the sale of certain Lester Park Land to the Duluth Economic Development Authority.

After reviewing the resolution, hearing public comments, and making amendments, the Planning Commission voted to approve the sale of Lester Park Land to DEDA. The amendments change the language to reflect a resolution that holds the city responsible and ensures the property is used in the manner suggested by the land study, as best.

“Right now, the property is on a P1, so it’s basically impossible to do any development on it now without changing that future land use and the park’s designation,” said Jenn Reed Moses, senior planner for the City of Duluth. “I know that we talked a lot about what is, what is the future land use. Of course, we don’t know exactly what that would be without doing this study.”

The Planning Commission shared that all of the land use studies in the city are based on the governing principles of the comprehensive plan and are used as a guide for future work.
