COMO Zoo Teaches 3rd Grade Class About the Rainforest
DULUTH, Minn. — A 3rd Grade class at Raleigh Academy had a 4-day residency program with the Como Zoo.
An Education Specialist from Como made the trip up to teach the class about the rainforest.
Students learned about the root systems, different types of trees and animals, the food webs and chains, and the weather.
They did hands on activities and worked together on projects.
“They are getting to work on teamwork together. They’re working all day with each other, which is a change. They are so happy they’re not doing math and reading. So, it’s a good change for them and a kind of nice break up in our typical schedule. They’ve really been enjoying getting to learn some new topics.” said Julie Hebert, 3rd Grade Teacher at Raleigh Academy.
Students also got to learn about the different plants and animals at the Como Zoo.
The residency program is a way for Como Zoo to reach out to schools.
This was their first Duluth school visit since the program had been revamped last spring.
