Section Football: Barnum Handles MIB to Capture 7A Title & Advance to State

For the first time since the 2012 season, the Barnum football team is in the state tournament.

CLOQUET, Minn.- For the first time since the 2012 season, the Barnum football team is in the state tournament.

On Friday, the Bombers defeated Mountain Iron-Buhl 34 to 8 in the Section 7A title game to secure their spot.

“It feels amazing. What was it my freshman, sophomore year I was playing with my brother and we made it to the section championship but we lost both times. So I always wanted to make it back and make it to state. And then my junior year we missed out, we lost in the second round. I’m so glad I made it with this team. I got another brother, he’s a sophomore Damian Beckstrand. I’m so glad I could make it with this team, it means a lot,” said running back Julian Beckstrand.

“I’m just really happy for these kids getting to experience something like this. It’s a feeling you can’t really replace. We talked about it. You can play a game with your buddies and have fun but having a feeling like this where all the work you put into this point truly pays off, it’s a pretty special feeling. Really happy these kids get to experience this tonight,” added head coach Bob Minkkinen.

Barnum will find out who their first round opponent is over the weekend.
