North Star Academy debuts new outdoor playscape

DULUTH, Minn. — North Star Academy officially unveiled its new playscape, much to the delight of many of its students.

Representatives from the Duluth Chamber of Commerce were also on hand to help cut the ribbon and show off the new space.

The “playscape” welcomes students into the outdoors to play and learn from the world around them in a safe environment in a hands-on way, all of which is made possible by the work of many volunteers.

“Andrea (Engstrom) and I worked together throughout the last year to order things that we needed, we got volunteers from the building to help clear out this space, help cut logs, help put the shed together,” said Melissa Reisdorf, a teacher at the academy.

“Without those volunteers, we would not be where we are today.”

North Star is still looking for some contributions for the space, and says old pots and pans for the sandbox are near the top of the list.
