UWS Women’s Soccer to Meet UChicago in Opening Round of National Tourney

The Yellowjackets first-round game against UChicago is on Saturday, November 15th at 11 a.m.

SUPERIOR, Wis.- The UWS women’s soccer team punched their ticket to the national tournament this past weekend.

UWS will take on 7th ranked UChicago in the first-round of the NCAA tournament.

In head coach Nick Piazza’s first season with the Yellowjackets, they returned to the top of the conference, claiming their 5th straight UMAC title with a 1-0 win over Northwestern.

Piazza says he will lean on his seven seniors during the Yellowjackets tournament run, especially against a tough first-round match up.

“If you look at them, they don’t allow a lot of shots. I think that they’re a pragmatic team. I think from that region that’s kind of a lot of what you see. They’re very smart in the way that they play.” said Piazza. “This group of players has been amazing, I don’t think we would be here without the seniors in the program and the captain’s that I have and the visions that they have for the program.”

“I think we are just really excited, the entire team. I feel like our mindset and identity has been growing throughout the year and I feel like even now, we are a completely different team than we were in conference and now this bid is just exciting to have that challenge,” said UWS defender Meagan Bergerson.
