Chester Bowl preparing for upcoming winter season

DULUTH, Minn. — Chester Bowl has begun it’s preparing for the upcoming winter season.

The preparations kicked off with ski fittings for young skiers and their families who will be renting the equipment during the season.

With events like these featuring well over 100 athletes a night, it’s the work of volunteers that helps Chester get ready for the big season ahead.

“When we have 126 people come through every night, we can’t do that alone with staff, and our volunteer community always comes out for us,” said Chester Bowl’s Executive Director Dave Schaeffer. “We have 15 volunteers helping out tonight to make sure that families can go through the process, and we’re so appreciative that our community always gets back.”

The equipment fittings are the first of a number of events Chester has coming up, including a fundraiser at Clyde Iron Works.

“We raise money for our scholarship fund with special events like Warren Miller’s ‘SNO-CIETY’,” said Schaffer.

“It’s a ski and snowboard epic film that’s an annual event. It’s the kickoff to winter, and we are the exclusive Duluth hosts.”

Chester Bowl, along with the City of Duluth, are also going to be providing an update for the ongoing chalet project by the end of November.

The screening of Warren Miller’s “SNO-CIETY” will take place at Clyde Iron on Nov. 14, with the film starting at 7 p.m. and a silent auction benefiting the organization’s scholarship fund running through the end of the film’s screening. Tickets are available at Chester Bowl’s website.
