DULUTH, Minn. — It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Northland. Minnesota Power is continuing a 40 year tradition of spreading holiday joy through a community Christmas tree.

After searching for the perfect tree, a 40-foot blue-spruce was chosen from right here in Duluth.

The tree will be decorated with 4,000 LEDS and will stay up through Christmas.

The competition was strong this year as the winning tree was chosen from around 25 submissions.

“Our team that goes out and scouts these various trees takes their job very seriously. It takes a lot of pride in it, where they go out and they make sure that the tree meets many criteria right, everything from size to how full it is, to how easy it is to actually remove it from the location,” Amy Rutledge, Minnesota Power & Allete Director of Corporate Communications said.

Next Friday, Nov 21, the tree will be lit up to kick off the holiday season in Duluth.

Minnesota Power and Allete will also announce additional charitable donations during the tree lighting.
