Sax Zim Bog extending the length of popular Auggie’s Bogwalk

MEADOWLANDS, Minn.– Over the years, Sax Zim Bog out in Meadowlands has captured the hearts of countless nature enthusiasts.

One of their most famous landmarks is going through what staff is calling a long overdue extension.

When visiting Sax Zim Bog, visitors have different goals and missions.

Whether it’s searching for a life bird or trying your luck at some photography.

But for some, it’s all about just taking in the nature.

“By getting people into the bog a little further on these boardwalks, people can have really intimate experiences with the ecology, the birds, the plants, the trees, and so it just they get a little different view,” said Sara Blanck, Associate Director at Sax Zim Bog.

Over the years, word has gotten out about Auggie’s Bogwalk, and has even gained international attention.

Following this, a team of both staff and volunteers are working to extend the boardwalk.

“Auggie’s Bogwalk has been a really popular boardwalk, but it was one of our first boardwalks, and it was kind of short, and so it just seemed like a natural extension to make this boardwalk a little bit longer,” said Blanck.

The serene atmosphere is a place meant for reflection.

The Associate Director of Sax Zim Bog told FOX 21, it has a somber backstory.

“It’s one of the properties we bought pretty early on in our organization’s history, and it was purchased in memory of a child that passed away in childbirth a local couple. His name was Augustus, and so they named this property ‘Auggie’s Bog Walk’  in his honor,” explained Blanck.

When it’s all said and done, Auggie’s Bogwalk will grow from 400 feet to 1,200 feet.
Construction is slated to be done right on time for their welcome center opening day on December 1st.

To give those bog walkers bigger, and better path into the sea of black spruce.
