Lake Superior College hosts first ever winter safety fair

DULUTH, Minn.– With winter well on its way, Lake Superior College wasted no time to put on its first ever winter safety fair.

Resources such as Duluth Fire and Police Departments, MNDOT, and Minnesota State Patrol came prepared to help educate students.

Topics ranged from navigating winter driving, checking smoke detectors, and safely heating homes.

In addition, the college was stocked up with 500 safety kits filled with essentials such as first aid supplies.

The fair also included a coat and winter gear drive as well.

“It’s really important that, you know, we educate the students, especially coming from out of town or out of state or potentially even out of the country, that they know how to be safe in the Minnesota winters, that we kind of push that education past the textbook,” said Justin Stangeland, Director of Public Safety & Facilities, Lake Superior College.

Lake Superior College officials told FOX 21 they will continue to distribute safety kits after the fair is wrapped up.
