Stempathy Career Fair inspires middle schoolers

DULUTH, Minn. — Ordean East Middle Schoolers are getting inspired at the STEMpathy Career Fair.

The career fair aims to connect the students with professionals in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields. The event showcases diverse STEM career pathways, allowing students to explore career options, learn about educational pathways, and see how these fields contribute to the community’s economic development.

“I think it’s awesome that we have people from the universities, from the businesses, from the hospitals to come and take time out of their day and want to share their passions with our students,” Aaron Salmela,  science teacher at Ordean East Middle School.

Middle School staff say the career fair helps the kids learn about a variety of careers they might not have heard about before.

“I love being an engineer, and I want to show other people how cool it is, or at least show that it’s an option if somebody is interested,” said Sarah Kurtev, project engineer at LaBounty.

The event is designed to get students excited and interested in careers in the growing STEM fields throughout the Twin Ports.
