Duluth Fire Marshal shares safety reminders with deep frying turkeys
DULUTH, Minn.– With the big turkey day coming up, being informed on preventing disasters can make or break the holiday.
The Duluth Fire Marshal is hoping to reduce that with some safety reminders.
He said, this is a busy time of year for the crew, with heating, power, and cooking fires.
And with preparing the bird by deep frying, we’re told that it’s the most dangerous method.
When it’s time to fry, staying outdoors, and ten feet away, clear from shrubs and buildings.
Making sure the turkey is completely thawed and dried before frying is crucial.
That being said, there is a method to test how much oil you need.
“We recommend doing a test run. So, we want you to fill your pot with water and then put the turkey in. So that allows you to see what level you actually need to put the oil at, so that you don’t overflow it, because the overflow is the issue when we overflow the oil, now the oil and the flame come in contact, and that’s when we have a big fire,” explained Adam Casillas, Duluth Fire Marshal.
Casillas also said, having a temperature-controlled frying method is highly recommended.
