Winter storm brings relief for snowmobilers
DULUTH, Minn. — As the freshly fallen powder hits the ground, snowmobilers across the Northland are gearing up to hit the trails.
Many groups, like the Hermantown Night Riders, are preparing to conduct a final sweep of the trails this weekend. This helps keep the paths smooth and clear of debris, which is crucial after snowstorms, including last night’s. The trails are set to open Dec. 1, as long as there is at least three inches of snow.
“I’m really excited about getting this much snow overnight,” said Eevrett Slayton, member of the Hermantown Night Riders. “Last winter, when I’d sit in the kitchen and watch out the window while we’re eating dinner, we’d see probably 1520, on a weekday, and then on the weekends, there’s probably upwards of 50.”
Amid the anticipation of hitting the trails, the Night Riders say it’s important to keep safety top of mind.
“My biggest safety tip is never ride alone,” said Slayton.
